“‘Blessed’, and my music theory, is about celebrating and releasing through thought and vision with emotion,” LA’s Yonas Michael tells us of his new track. “You can feel the soul and pain the minute the record begins. It made me challenge myself to shed light through real life situations and temptations.”
That pain and soul is indeed evident on the soulful vocal clip and organ riff that runs throughout the track, laid down by producer Professor H, the latest in a series of collaborators for the former member of the breakout CA hip hop duo U-N-I, who’s also found himself on tracks alongside Kendrick Lamar (“I Do This“) and Bun B.
“My ultimate goal is to be one of the greatest artist of all time and revolutionize hip hop,” Michael says of his new Black Swan Theory. “The moment Professor H came up with the tempo and feel for the beat, I was dialed in. Mind you, before we got to the studio, we were both exchanging issues we were dealing with at the time. ‘Blessed’ is a reflection of our conversation and my mentality in that moment. I am on a mission to inspire the world through my musical artistry.”
What’s a Black Swan, you might ask?
“Look at The Wright Brothers, they are Black Swans,” he says. “Before airplanes existed they had the idea of what is today’s number one mode of transportation. Obama is a Black Swan, becoming the first African-American President. They say winners never quit and quitters never win, thru all of my obstacles and victories I will lead you with the best music pushing boundaries. My purpose is not to compete, but to make competition irrelevant.”
