Premiere: ohnomoon Revisit the NYC “Blackout” In Jittery, Lonesome Fashion

The inspiration for “Blackout” was pretty straightforward, Kat Lee, singer of the New York four piece ohnomoon says, coming in the aftermath of the power outage across the city after Hurricane Sandy.

“Seeing all the lights out for so much of the city was incredibly strange, it really struck me. The intense quiet was really unsettling. I know that the frenetic, constant buzz of energy and people moving, hustling, packed into this place can be the makings of a panic attack for some. For me, this ‘New York’ energy is what I was born and raised with, and it truly nurtures me. Having that energy change so drastically, suddenly drop out in a way that I never imagined, how could it not leave a mark?”

The feeling of displacement comes through in the track, with creeping synth and guitar lines, and vocals that sweep through the spaces like the wind in a quiet city.

“Blackout” will appear on the VVV EP out in March. Fine more from ohnomoon here.
