The balance of live instruments and electronic touches explored by the genre-blurry Apidae, the duo of Greg Hummell and Drew JH York, is evident throughout “Turning Tides.” On the track a thrumming bass lines runs in perpetual motion beneath York’s breathy falsetto and an evolving percussion line.

“‘Turning Tides’ is a representation of the melancholy mood and unfocused, woozy sensation felt during the comedown of a night out, with abstract lyrics, hinting at themes of transition and detachment from the present,” the duo explained of the single, released this week from Dumont Dumont.
