Check Out This Street Artist’s Subtle Commentary On Hollywood at the Oscars

“Plastic Jesus is a street artist on the level of Banksy,” reads a pull quote attributed to Buzzfeed on the Los Angeles-based artist’s website. “His work is provocative, socially charges [sic?], and elegant. He is one to follow for sure.”

For sure. The artist, whose name is a reference to the concept of putting Jesus Christ on a credit card because money is who we really worship, has dreamed up a new installation piece that completely obliterates Hollywood. It’s a giant Academy Award statue doing lines of coke on a red carpet, and it appeared today on Hollywood Blvd. — near where the ceremony happens.

Some of his other pieces include a statue doing heroin, which is another drug that is bad to do, and a big dollar bill and cocaine lines on the sidewalk, not normally where you see people doing lines of cocaine.

My favorite of his works so far, however, is this message to all of us too wrapped up in our celebrity-obsessed culture to stop and think about what is important.
