In what’s probably the first and last time I’ll ever say this sentence, I learned about new music from the Huffington Post today. It was in this piece on 50 Cent’s new music video for “Be My Bitch,” which they have accurately, and surprisingly distilled down to its major selling points: It’s an advertisement for threesomes and 50’s new line of headphones. Got to be honest though, it kind of failed on the latter half of the equation, because one thing I did not come away from after watching this “steamy” clip is a desire to purchase musical equipment. In that regard it was a marketing failure.
Come to think of it, it didn’t do such a good job of selling me on the whole threesome arrangement deal 50 and his “bitch” seem to have going on here, either. Kind of seems like a lot of extra work if you ask me. Tell you what: why don’t you two just go do your thing, and I’ll be over here watching Breaking Bad on the computer. Let me know if anything comes up that requires my attention.
Setting aside a lot of the problematic gender politics going on here — which, what do you expect from a rap video about three ways? — I’d have to say the most personally offensive aspect of this video to me is 50 wearing baseball caps for both the Indianapolis Colts and the Yankees in the same video. That’s the type of double-team action that’s just not kosher.
