Aura Friedman has colored the locks of Lady Gaga and M.I.A. Drawing inspiration from art, pop culture and film, Aura has established herself as one of the most sought after colorists working in fashion today. Now stationed at the famed Sally Hershberger salon, Aura took time out from her busy schedule to chat one much buzzed about singer Sky Ferreira’s transition to platinum.
Sky Ferreira has been my client for about 3 years. In that time, she’s been the muse to many photographers, ahem, Hedi Slimane and Terry Richardson to name a few, and a BULLETT fave. A month ago, I flew out to LA to take Sky even more platinum for the cover shoot of her latest EP, Ghost, which you can livestream here. When I first started coloring her hair, we emphasized her dark roots and kept them about 4 inches long and then bleached the length of her hair. One of my favorite looks I did was at Coachella a couple summers back, where we both decided to have fun with her hair and color it in dusty lavenders and pinks. About a year ago, we decided to go platinum. Since then we’ve been experimenting with different toned platinum blondes, the most recent being a fade silver to pewter tips which made its debut on the cover of Ghost and then at last night’s CMJ show at Santos Party House.
