Yesterday, day four of Paris Fashion Week, was a good day for knit: Raf Simons got crafty at Christian Dior with cream and white sweater dresses and pink macrame accents; Yohji Yamamoto made splendid evening knitwear out of origami pleats and ribbed tubes; the Sonia Rykiel girl showed off with mohair trompe l’oeils of her bermuda triangle and an itty bitty titty censored bar; the Maison Martin Margiela collection looked like the target of a yarn bombing; and, finally, at Issey Miyake, Yoshiyuki Miyamae proved that knit ribbing can move like a Magic Eye. Amidst the knits were other artful textures, like Chalayan’s gobbledy paint dress, Dior’s ethereal early Warhol printed layers, Margiela’s brush stroke stripes, and Yohji Yamamoto ode to Schiaparelli nailed gloves in red and Shocking! pink. The Met must be impressed.
