Still mourning the loss of Nicolas Ghesquière at the house of Balenciaga? You’re not alone. We spotted more than a few odeful Ghesquièreisms at both Altuzarra and Prabal Gurung yesterday. Less so at Alexander Wang, who has been appointed to fill Ghesquière’s huge, ever-covetable shoes at Balenciaga, starting this season. At his namesake label, Wang strut out a familiar set of black leather and slate hued the-sidewalk-is-my-runway “cool girl” looks, the indisputable highlight of which were the fur boxing mits and gorilla girl arms. Coincidentally (maybe?), Joseph Altuzarra delivered a couple pairs of near-identical hand warmers. The fighting theme didn’t stop there: Prabal Gurung was all army green, while, at VPL and Alexandre Herchcovitch, the girls looked like they’d just been through a cat fight. “Rip her to disheveled-chic shreds,” their undress said. For all the militancy, there were equal bouts of softness, most in the form of fur, mohair, and other faux-animal knits.
