After last season’s racist Mammie print fiasco, our favorite tax evading Italians, Dolce & Gabbana, have smartened up with a collection that sacrileges something closer to their home: icons of the Catholic Church. Dresses, bags, and smocks were adorned with golden mosaics inspired by those at Sicily’s Cathedral of Monreale. The result was stunning (as was last season’s “oh no they didn’t”, if we’re being aesthetically honest, but yikes). Since this Fall (2013) from grace doesn’t offend our atheist sensibilities, we’ll say yes to two pairs of the cagey floral shoes; tax is on the house though, right? Meanwhile at Marni, things got cuddly. Consuelo Castiglioni has left behind her signature crafty clashing, refining the Marni girl into a wo-man. Fur on top, sandals below: only on the runway, but that’s the beauty of fashion, isn’t it? And finally, the last but not least of our favs from day five of MFW, we have Emporio Armani fashioning velvet like Comme des Garçons.
