Welcome to the Illesteva showroom in Manhattan, New York.
Illesteva was founded in 2009 by Daniel Silberman and born-and-raised New Yorker Jus Ske. "I couldn’t find a pair that I liked," says Daniel, "so I just made my own."
The glasses are manufactured in small factories in France and Italy, some with as few as five craftsmen. Illesteva uses carefully selected materials like acetate and bamboo, titanium and natural buffalo horn.
I ask Daniel to walk me through the process of creating a pair of frames.
"First, you start out with your hand drawing. Then you do a 3D rendering. Then you get a sample sent to you, customize it, and that’s it."
Next season, Illesteva is moving into opticals. "We will be offering prescription services on our website soon."
And they are starting to produce some of the finest quality umbrellas I've ever unfolded.
Illesteva is a new New York based eyewear company that is making some of most catching frames on the market. We visited with one half of the Illesteva team, Daniel Silberman, at their showroom in Manhattan.
