The McCarren Pool is in the news today, mainly for being a hotbed of class division and police brutality (except here the police are the ones being brutalized). What opened last week as a literal oasis of community harmony and innocent summer fun has become an opinion magnet and a referendum on urban coexistence. Sort of.
