It would take a long, long time to chronicle the history of rap, so trust me: The medium’s come a long way across a few decades and a few thousand artists, transforming from a block party pursuit into a multi-billion dollar industry. So there’s that. But nowhere rap has come would allow for the existence of this maybe charming, definitely excruciating video of Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth Paltrow rapping a goofy little ditty in honor of Chelsea Handler’s new late-night studio. Over a beat provided by MC Diaz, MC Paltrow raps about a number of things, though I can’t provide a transcription because I’m still feeling deeply embarrassed. I mean, can you imagine the drunk stuff you do with your friends being broadcasted across all of cable TV? The mind boggles. Handler’s new studio debuts next week, but that simply isn’t that important compared to the real takeaway: Awkward white girl rapping still has a power like none other to make us head for the pause button.
