A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the always popular blaming-teenage-rape-victims for being sluts scene, and fretted there wasn’t a third example in the news of late to make it a full-blown trend piece. Welp, didn’t have to wait long for that to come along, because a man in Montana who raped a 14 year old girl was given a 30 day sentence for the crime. Why? The girl was “older than her chronological age” according to the judge. The rapist, Stacey Rambold, was a teacher at the time. The mature-beyond-her-years girl is now 17 years old, forever, because she killed herself.
The judge in question has released a series of half-assed explanations following a predictable, and justified outcry, saying:
“What I said is demeaning of all women, not what I believe and irrelevant to the sentencing,” Baugh wrote. “My apologies to all my fellow citizens.” Baugh, however, still hasn’t changed his mind on the sentencing. Instead, he is planning to write an addendum to the court file this week explaining his rationale. via
