Korean rapper YEN TECH broke out in January with one of our favorite projects so far in 2016, his debut full-length album Mobis charged with a sleek, cinematic sound that could easily soundtrack the most menacing of sci-fi films. We described it as having a “Mad Max mentality with The Matrix styling,” which is still appropriate for his new buzz track, “Devil May Cry”—a ferocious return packed with ominous lulls and tenacious climaxes.
“I just landed back in China, sweet and sour in the Hermès bag,” he says, warming up. “Smoke up, watch the city crumble […] no earthly plans.”
Along with a fresh track, the rising artist has announced his first tour to support Mobis: a seven-stop trip across Europe and Asia that will build on the album’s immersive, “hi-res fantasy theme.” Highlights will include a live performance and installation on a boat with boychild, Korakrit Arunanondchai and Alex Gvojic for the Berlin Biennale, as well as an augmented performance in Shanghai which will feature visuals by Kim Laughton.
