When Kanye announced earlier this month he was cancelling his Yeezy Season 6 fashion show, it was hard to find something to care less about. Sure, Kanye’s been a trendsetter since his pink polo days and Yeezy’s monochromatic ‘is this a sock or a shirt?’ aesthetic has set the tone for Instagram models and boys who won’t call you back. But let’s be honest: the Yeezy shows have become a punchline for much of the fashion community. I mean, Yeezy Season 3 was just a glorified album release party, and who can forget Yeezy Season 4, when Kanye packed a bunch of editors onto a charter bus during rush hour only to arrive at an abandoned smallpox factory where models were literally dying from the heat. Apparently, those two experiences were just so great, he couldn’t pass up another (good or bad) press opportunity, and will actually be showing Yeezy Season 6, after all. But this time, he’s going to fly all of those editors to Paris. I guess if everyone in my extended family was pregnant, I’d also probably want to leave the country. Or maybe, ‘messy’ just sounds better in French for Kanye.
