Universality is at the forefront of cultural conversation today and there’s no fabric that achieves genuine inclusivity like denim: a symbol of classic Americana and the material that made Levi’s® an iconic brand for fusing function with fashion. In lieu of this legacy, our favorite denim stalwarts have released a three-part documentary, The 501® Jean: Stories of an Original, celebrating where it all began in 1873.

Following “Work” and preceding “Rebellion,” the series’ second installment, “Style,” profiles when Levi’s began transcending trusted workwear and becoming a fashionable favorite among Hollywood stars. For decades, the timeless 501® Jean has served as go-to staple for style leaders and years later, still resonates with today’s top tastemakers. Featuring narration by Woody Guthrie protege Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, the clip brings together the past and present, set to a warm score by Ernest Green of Washed Out.

Everyone from American Artist John Baldessari to Model Erin Wasson, Paper Founder Kim Hastreiter to Rihanna Stylist Mel Ottenberg make cameos, each sharing thoughtful insight on their favorite time-honored pant: The Levi’s® 501® Jean. Watch, below:
