Whitney Announces Debut Album, Shares Nostalgic ‘Golden Days’ Video

+

Rising Chicago band Whitney announced today the arrival of their debut album, Light Upon the Lake, due out June 3 via Secretly Canadian. We’ve had the pleasure of listening to the project in full and can say with confidence that the newcomers have a winning release on their hands, laced with singer/drummer Julien Ehrlich’s fuzzy, falsetto vocals and Max Kakacek’s warm, easy guitars.

While the two both played in Smith Westerns, they’ve cast aside that youthful garage-punk sound and graduated onto a more mature palette—10 focused tracks with a slimmed-down, self-aware quality. Following their wistful lead single, “No Woman,” Whitney shared today a second cut, “Golden Days,” previewing the brighter, more triumphant side to Light Upon the Lake, topped with Will Miller’s soothing trumpet.

Below, watch the official video, directed by Josiah Marshall and Frank Frankowski, pre-order Whitney’s forthcoming debut and catch the promising band on tour this spring.
