It seems as though it is the year for bittersweet music documentaries.
While the hotly anticipated Kurt Cobain doc already received high praise at SXSW, we’ve heard less about this look at the life of British phenomenon Amy Winehouse. Dubbed simply Amy, the doc is filled with throwback footage of Winehouse, whose death from alcohol poisoning devastated fans and the music industry in 2011.
Towards the end of the teaser, in a moment of brutally tragic foreshadowing, Winehouse tells an interviewer, “I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous. I don’t think I could handle it. I would probably go mad.”
Directed by Asif Kapadia, who also directed the brilliant Senna, this is bound to be a tear-jerker.
Amy hits theaters in the UK July 3rd.
