You may remember a couple months back when art punk heroine Amanda Palmer broke the music business by obliterating expectations for her Kickstarter fundraiser to promote her forthcoming album. She raised almost $1.2 million dollars in a month or so. Seems like the fruits of that wellspring of good will, and good cash, may be paying off, as her just-released video for the new song “Want It Back” arrived this week.
It’s a predictably inventive and artistic creation. Produced and directed by Jim Batt with artist Curran James, the stop-motion video is a commentary on the written word as a creeping, tendril-like virus that, much like love, infects us all. Or something. Maybe it’s about tattoos? Amanda Palmer details the production on her blog: “Curran, who was a patient brush-wielding GOD, and i showed up for three days straight, getting drawn on. there were a few moments where the entire crew fell asleep on the floor waiting for the slllllllooooooowwww process to come to a painful end.”
The album, Theatre Is Evil, will be released in September. Now there’s a sentiment most of us can agree upon.
