Inspired by Les Enfants du Paradis, Brooklyn-based designer Suzanne Rae Pelaez created a FW14 collection wrought with romantic reinterpretations of her brand’s signature minimalism. Throughout the collection, Palaez pays homage to a star of the film: Baptiste Debureau, the French mime. Baptiste encourages us to embrace our alter egos, a message Palaez also worked to incorporate. Her color scheme of black and white consciously represents the ego and alter ego, while the use of ruffles and oversized silhouettes draws a direct parallel between the mime and collection.
