There’s something just a little bit off about the video for “Promises” from Sean Nicholas Savage: that deathly face paint, his herky-jerky dance moves, and the fact that he spends the majority of the clip looking through the fridge and the drawers of an apartment. But, as is often the case with the Canadian artist, there’s always room for a little extra weird toward the end, where things shift into what seems like the opening stages of a werwolf film. Come to think of it, this is pretty standard Savage territory.
The song itself plays it a bit more straight, a velvety cushion of an r&b croon pushed by hand percussion and Savage’s falsetto.
We asked the Savage to talk a bit about the song and video, and he offered the following:
“shot in the dark
at the end of the night
this is not a poem
but my video’s certainly are
my very first
shot by Better Person
first take (by necessity)
edited in first take
(if that were possible)
in flames (warm sheets)
please enjoy with the blinds drawn,
