For a guy who plays a lot of them in movies, Russell Brand really, really does not suffer fools gladly. Fresh off his media takedown on MSNBC earlier this summer, the Brit comedian was back telling truth to power again recently at an awards ceremony held by GQ UK. (via Gawker).
Thanking the magazine for the award, Brand pointed out that he was “glad to grace the stage where [London mayor] Boris Johnson made light of the use of chemical weapons in Syria.” That means that GQ now stands for “genocidal quips,” he quipped.
There was more to come.
“Any of you who know a little bit about history and fashion will know that Hugo Boss made the uniforms for the Nazis,” he said. “The Nazis did have flaws, but, you know, they did look fucking fantastic. Let’s face it. While they were killing people on the basis of their religion and sexuality.”
“Genocide quips are ok!” he assured the uncomfortable audience. “They’ve already been sanctioned.”
Brand was reportedly disinvited from the after-party. Not before getting in one more zinger.
