At the peak of his best-rapper-alive run, Lil Wayne started writing a sports column for ESPN, one that was more nuanced and down-to-earth than you’d expect from someone who once rapped “fly go hard like geese erection.” So it’s not much of a surprise that he’s into sports, but fairly amusing to see that his allegiances change with the wind: By my count, I’ve seen him wearing jerseys for the New Orleans Hornets, the Green Bay Packers, and now, the San Francisco Giants. For last night’s playoff game between the Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals, Wayne took to the crowd at San Francisco’s AT&T Park during the 7th inning stretch to lead everyone through a not entirely on key but nevertheless winsome version of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” that old standard that should undoubtedly remind you of over-roasted peanuts and absolutely foul ballpark bathrooms. It’s a bit of a trip to see Weezy going so family-friendly, but there’s no nobler cause than rallying the troops to take down the infernal, insufferable Cardinals. (Says this jaded Cubs fan.)
