When Jon Stewart, one of the funniest men on the planet, took a sabbatical from The Daily Show last year to direct a movie, you had to figure it was going to be a comedy. But no. Stewart, who also happens to be one of the most intelligent men around, chose to make a hard-hitting drama based on a true story. It was called Rosewater, and it centered around an Iranian-Canadian journalist (played Gael García Bernal) covering the tumultuous 2009 elections in Iran, eventually getting arrested and imprisoned under accusations that he was a spy. As the movie gears up for a couple of festival runs before its inevitable awards push, we now have our first look at its fairly emotional trailer, which you can watch below. You won’t laugh, but you might cry.
