We’ve been freaking out over FKA twigs this year, just like everyone else, so it would just be straight up dereliction of buzz-sustaining duty if we didn’t alert you to this fine bit of shareable music content in which she covers fellow budding superstar Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me.”
Smith is no stranger to memorable cover versions himself lately.
The clip, part of a performance from the BBC Live Lounge, finds the singer slowing down the already slow song to a glacial pace. It sounds like the slow melting and breaking apart of an ice floe. The rewind-like sound effects throw the sense of emotional balance off, which is appropriate, given the nature of the upheaval at the heart of the song.
