Remember the days when we would go three whole years between Star Wars movies, subsisting on bizarre confections like the legendary “Holiday Special” or those wacko Ewok movies to hold us over until the next Episode? Those days were a long time ago, in another galaxy far, far away. Now in the hands of Disney’s “white slavers” (sorry George, can’t walk that one back), the Star Wars franchise is setting up for a sustained attack on our collective senses for at least the next half-decade, with one major film each year.
A bit much? Maybe, but things got off to a good, crowd-pleasing, over-$1-billion start with The Force Awakens. And while that movie brought Star Wars back to solid footing after the insufferable prequels, Lucasfilm looks to bring a different perspective to the first SW spin-off film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The trailer, which debuted Thursday morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, teases a grittier take on the Rebels vs. the Empire, with Felicity Jones joining the Alliance on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star, meaning it takes place before the original film A New Hope. Check the video below for the clip, which promises to tick all the Star Wars boxes: hordes of Stormtroopers (check), a fair amount of sand (check), and a squad of massive Imperial Walkers (check, and how).
