Our favorite LA scuzz rockers, Cherry Glazerr, are back with a fresh lineup, new single and bloody music video. “Nurse Ratched” is the band’s second release featuring new members, Sasami Ashworth and Tabor Allen, who provide the perfect sludgy backdrop for lead singer, Clementine Creevy’s, raspy yowl. The video, directed by Roxanne Benjamin, stars Creevy as a serial killer, part Patrick Bateman, part Carrie.
Along with the video, the band took to social media to announce their new album, Apocalipstick, out January 20. The follow-up to 2014’s Haxel Princess, written while Creevy was still in high school, Apocalipstick, the singer says, will be rife with humor and feminist lyrics.
“Comedy in music is extremely important to me because humor is all we have as human beings,” she said, describing tracks from the upcoming album. “‘Trash People’ is a fun song about how I have dirty fucking habits. It’s about being road rats, nasty ass, dirty fuckers. That’s how I like to live.”
Another track is about slut-shaming and Instagram trolls. “Who the fuck cares?” asks Sasami, “If you wanna post a photo of your pussy, go for it!”
With all their feminist musings, the band, and Creevy have also matured. “Nurse Ratched” shows the singer growing into her voice, combining her signature squeals with a more grown up sound. Last month’s release, “Told You I’d Be With The Guys,” also reflects the band’s new confidence and solidified sound. If they’re both a hint at what’s to come with Apocalipstick, we’re definitely excited.
