Was Another New Daft Punk Song Leaked a Decade Ago?

+

Maybe? Sort of? Back in 2002, Daft Punk did a DJ set that included what’s supposedly an early version of “Contact,” one of the songs appearing on the upcoming Random Access Memories. The song, which features DJ Falcon, has been clipped out from the larger set so you can judge for yourself. The early impression is that it sounds like orchestral music from a Super Nintendo videogame, like one of the old Castlevanias where the intrepid hero approaches the vampire-filled mansion while preparing to fight for his life. Listen to those digitized overtures! If it’s on the level, it’s presumably been updated/remastered for 2013—of course it has, because this is just a ripped track of a decade-old performance. More worthwhile than deciding whether or not it’s real is looking through the Youtube comments, where several Daft Punk fans are vehemently denying its veracity because they could never release something so amateurish. Well, the amateurish part is sort of the point. Listen below and storm all the imaginary mansions in your mind.
