Prior to today if you’d asked me to picture Donald Trump playing beach volleyball, or doing anything on the beach, or anything at all anywhere in the world really, the image that would come to mind would be of him in his trademark business suit. It’s not hard to imagine, right? Trump spiking a volleyball, grabbing a cool refreshing soda from the cooler, then jogging down to the water for a quick dip, all without ever removing his jacket. Trump, as Gawker recently pointed out, is basically the Tobias Funke of formal attire.
Sadly, I would have been mistaken in my fantasy, because proof has emerged that, at least at one point in the past, Trump actually did play beach volleyball, but in the much more sensible outfit of jeans and a polo shirt. Would you like to see what that looks like? Of course you would.
The clip in question, set masterfully to “Playing With The Boys” by Kenny Loggins, the song playing during the volleyball scene in Top Gun, is undated, but is somewhere before 1999, when it served as a Moment of Zen on The Daily Show. It appears to be from an event in 1996, according to photos from Getty, all of which you can see here. Please do so, as they are glorious.
