If it’s been a minute since you’ve listened to “Untrust Us,” the 2008 Crystal Castles track, do yourself a favor and revisit it right now. Roughly a few thousand electronic duos have tried to mimic its recipe of atmosphere and propulsion in the meantime, with diminishing returns. Doesn’t seem like you could get any more dome-twisting than that, but UK duo VS//YOUTHCLUB have managed to reinvent the song by dropping the vocal track on top of a slowed-down kitchen-sink (literally, sounds like) glitch beat that ratchets up the confusion and claustrophobia before revealing the escape hatch at the end of the haunted disco tunnel, with a bright keyboard line that ascends back into more stable terain.
