You know what they say, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, which is probably the mentality of the 18 designers tapped to collaborate with Vetements for next week’s SS ’17 Paris show. Yes, the cult hoodie-makers are pulling a Life of Pablo and culling a diverse slew of brands to create a mega-hyped super-show.
Among the lucky selected are Hanes, Levis, Manolo Blahnick and Juicy Couture, the idea being that these are the leaders in their respective garment arenas (undershirts, jeans, shoes and velour tracksuits, respectively).
Cult leader, er, designer Demna Gvasalia told The Cut that their Levis-esque jeans never looked “100 percent authentic,” saying “That’s when I began thinking that the ideal situation would be to work with manufacturers who specialize in each category—whether it’s jeans, T-shirt, bomber jacket.”
The cult is growing, people, and come next week the think pieces will be plentiful.
