Oh, to be a fly on the wall at the offices of Versus, the Versace diffusion line that was passed down to Donatella Versace by its founder, her late brother Gianni. We can only imagine the type of hifalutin drollery that goes on between chain-smoking, sun-loving Donatella and Scottish fashion wunderkind Christopher Kane when they toss around design ideas. BULLETT pal Samantha Casolari didn’t exactly get all Gregor Samsa on Versus, but she did get the next best thing: backstage, where she captured smiling models engaged in girlish chatter.
The collection served up a sporty sherbert palette with black peekaboo details. Wimbledon-friendly tennis skirts were cut short and pleated. (Bring it on, indeed.) To Versus’ credit, even the sportiest pieces—mesh basketball dresses, warm-up hoodies—boasted clean lines and precise tailoring. If the runways are any indication—and don’t get it twisted: they are—women everywhere will soon be transformed into either hypercolor cheerleaders or subversive housewives. Or both, because there’s nothing better than a Oxy-mom with pom poms.
