Cult beauty brand Urban Decay recognizes that for many of us, makeup is the most accessible means of artistic expression, and as such, they’ve announced a collaboration with the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat. An interesting choice, given that as much as I love a Basquiat painting, it’s literally never what I want my face to look like.
The limited edition collection was announced today via Instagram and will hit the shelves on April 20, though according to the brand, the release will be “SERIOUSLY limited,” so maybe don’t get your hopes up too high.
The 12-piece collection includes a very bright, very EDM festival-apropos eyeshadow palette along with a more subdued one for those of us who are less comfortable with the prospect of rocking lime green eyelids. There are also several lipsticks, a blush palette, and similarly eye-popping eyeliners. The collection boasts reproductions of popular Basquiat imagery — including his signature crown — and will retail for between $17 and $39. In case the whole thing wasn’t over-the-top cool enough for you yet, Orange Is The New Black star Ruby Rose has been tapped to model it all.
And, by the way, that undoubtedly long wait outside Sephora next month could be worth it when you consider that this is the cheapest deal you’ll ever find on a Basquiat painting, which have been known to go for as high as $57 million at auction. Given that you can cop this whole set for $165, it’s an absolute steal.
