UK X-Factor Stars Little Mix Ruin/Improve Mumford and Sons’ “I Will Wait”

I’ve only just learned of the existence of a musical-singing group thing called Little Mix, so I’m a little hazy on why this is such a big deal, but trust me, if you were either a British teenager or a no-fun-club super serious folk-pop moper, you would be shitting your panties right now over this cover the group performed of Mumford and Sons “I Will Wait” for the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.

Little Mix, whose members are named Perrie, Jesy, Leigh-Anne, and Jade, one of whom you’re going to be required to sign a blood oath of allegiance to by the end of this blog post so start thinking about that now, were the winners of the 8th season of the UK X Factor, which is even a bigger deal over there than it is here, which isn’t at all actually, so pretend I made a better analogy. Their debut album will be out next week. It’s called Who Gives A Shit? Probably something close to that, anyway.

Listen as the group turn the already maudlin trek through the interminable waiting-room of love that is the banjo-nated song into a somehow slower, more melodramatic affair, something that didn’t seem possible up until ten minutes ago.

OK, now check out some of the the most emblematic YouTube commenters, and decide which group you sympathize with more, the “Mixers” as they call themselves, or the butt-hurt Mumforders (probably).

What the actual fucking shit BBC, why would you let such a talentless, manufactured, plastic commercial group of money, fame grabbing mannequins pathetically whine and wail and whimper their way through a good song by a talented band who work hard at their art? Why undermine Mumford and Sons’ hard-earned artistic integrity? These girls don’t write music, they don’t write lyrics, they don’t play instruments, they can’t even sing, they’re the inane faces of a brand – everything Mumford are not!!

Or this?

mumford & sons = hippy shitty music

thanks Little Mix for turning shit into gold

Or are you maybe somewhere in between, like this conflicted fellow?

I like little mix, but they DESTROYED this song.. I used to love this song :'(

Music is hard sometimes.
