This past weekend, Tyler the Creator followed in Kanye’s footsteps by turning the first ever runway show for his Golf Wang 2016 collection into a multi-faceted event. Part of the Made L.A. emerging designer showcase, the Golf Wang presentation not only included a runway show, but also the debut of his new sneaker line, Golf Le Fleur, mini-skits, comedy sketches and a performance of his brand new song, written specifically for the night.
Beginning with Tyler acting out his morning routine, complete with a Golf Wang robe, toothbrush and toothpaste, and ending with his performance of “Ego,” the show was a full experience, featuring the designer’s friends, family and members of the Odd Future crew skating and riding motorbikes down the runway. Following his now trademark ’90s aesthetic, the clothes were bright, preppy skate-wear: overalls, hoodies, snapbacks and letterman jackets in stripes, polka dots and animal prints. The runway itself looked like as if Nickelodeon designed a skate park, and the collection was made available for pre-order on the Golf Wang website immediately following the show.
