Exhuming old rivalries seems to be a big trend in scripted TV these days. After the success of Ryan Murphy’s Feud, which focused on the bad blood between Hollywood legends Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, Bravo is working on a project based on Thomas Maier’s 1994 book Newhouse that will delve deep into the storied antagonism between Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Vanity Fair head (and later New Yorker editor-in-chief and Daily Beast co-founder) Tina Brown. Basically, it’s a dream come true for anyone who has ever loved (or loved to hate) glossy magazines and people who run them.
According to a press release by NBC (via WWD), the plotline of All That Glitters will go a little something like this: “As both bold and driven women fight their way to the top of a male-dominated industry driven by greed and betrayal, they each find new paths to change the world around them — Tina through the intersection of high culture and celebrity, and Anna with an instinct for high fashion and emerging talent.” And here we all thought The September Issue was juicy.
As of yet, no details are available on casting, release date, or how Wintour and Brown feel about having their dirty laundry from 25 years ago aired on national television. But it’s safe to say the promise of throwback wardrobes, unflattering early ’90s haircuts, a glimpse into the pre-internet media industry, and, most importantly, insidery drama done Bravo style, make it worth getting very excited about.
