Bryan Singer’s bizarre career is about to spawn a new chapter with Jack the Giant Killer. You may know him as the unlikely director of both The Usual Suspects and the X-Men enterprise. You may not–as yet–know him as the director of a fine, if unbalanced, cast that includes BULLETT cover boys Nicholas Hoult and Ewan McGregor as well as Stanley Tucci, Bill Nighy and Eleanor Tomlinson in next year’s Jack the Giant Killer. The film is a CGI-happy re-imagining of the classic fairy tale, and a contender in the epic fairy-tale film wars of the Spring. It’s becoming apparent that our taste for medieval fantasy dramas is not going to be quenched any time soon. But has the Game of Thrones craze really sent everyone mad? I mean, how many times can one watch people in armor attack a burning fortress? The answer: even fewer times than one can witness heads on sticks being carried into battle. Come on, Hollywood. We all love HBO, but at some point you may actually have to think for yourself.
