Question: How do you make the life of an egomaniacal murderer and rapist look like one big party?
Answer: Set it to a soundtrack by Depeche Mode.
The trailer for The Devil’s Double, the new film about ultimate spoiled-rich-kid-turned-sadist Uday Hussein offers a glimpse into the life of the powerful dictator’s son as seen through the eyes of his bodyguard/double Latif Yahia. Pretty-boy Brit Dominic Cooper (who you might recognize from An Education and Captain America: The First Avenger) plays both leading roles, and although his English accent makes a brief but distracting appearance in the trailer, there’s no question that he commands attention on-screen. Adapted from Yahia’s autobiography of the same name, The Devil’s Double is already garnering comparisons to Scarface, but it seems incredibly unlikely that Cooper’s Uday is capable of achieving that rare distinction of likeable villain. In any case, it’s Iraq, it’s the 80’s, there’s cocaine, there’s sports cars, there’s shootouts, there’s girls… and if it’s anything like HBO’s House of Saddam, it’s got guilty pleasure written all over it.
