When people look too cool to be true, they usually are. Luckily this isn’t the case with the boys (and girl) of ACC STUDIO, the Toronto-based collective that has the singularly excellent output across all mediums to back up their impossibly killer aesthetic.

These days the word “collective” is thrown around fast and loose and tends to be (rather appropriately) met with a shrug and an eye roll. Most so-called collectives center around one superstar and a bunch of mediocre hanger-ons. Others are compiled of disparate creatives, loosely thrown together under some silly banner name.

But ACC is a collective in that true, seemingly impossible way. They have their individual practices—LA TIMPA is a musician, Jimbo helms the clothing line INSUB’ORDINATE, etc. etc. etc.—but the cross-pollination is endless. Brand videos, lookbooks, exhibits and events are all conceptualized, produced, scored and/or manufactured in-house. And when I say in-house I mean that literally; most of the crew lives under one roof. Not to mention the fact that they’re always rolling together—a swarm of well-dressed, artfully tattooed creatures.

This week the swarm descended on New York and tonight they host “Code Red,” a party that’s become a Toronto staple, at Elvis Guesthouse. Tunes will be provided by ACC’s JIM.INY and Murderposse. Expect to hear everything from hip hop throwbacks to electronic deep cuts.

You should come, it’ll be fun.

“Code Red” is tonight at Elvis Guesthouse in the East Village from 9pm – 4am.
