When it comes to casting feature films, we’ve always believed the process to be lengthy and difficult—especially for a visionary like Tom Ford, whose aesthetic is so focused, and method so meticulous. We imagined that every aspect of his creative endeavors would be so painfully detailed and well thought out, but apparently he’s as lazy as the rest of us.
In an interview with Vulture last week, the fashion designer turned director said he cast his latest feature film, Nocturnal Animals, using Google. Looking for an actress to play Laura Linney’s character, Ford searched “best American actresses,” and when that worked out well, he tried “best American actors,” and “actors over 30.”
If Google is good enough for Tom Ford, then it’ll work just fine for all us plebeians, too.
