It’s not just because of the name that the track “Sherbet” from Australia’s Cub Sport is making us think about bright colors and summertime treats, but that’s certainly not hurting either. In the hands of Togetherness, aka Nicky and Ross from St. Lucia, it’s transformed into even more of a carefree gambol, with a tropical disco energy that only increases the sticky sweetness.
“It’s been really exciting to see this Togetherness remix breathe new life into ‘Sherbet’,” Cub Sport explained. “We’ve been playing ‘Sherbet’ in our live set for over a year, so it’s cool to hear it take a new direction. Togetherness have created something completely fresh without losing the upbeat positive feel of the original song.”
Togetherness chimed in with the method behind their remixing style as well.
“The idea behind Togetherness remixes was never to pump out club bangers. We wanted to approach each remix unhindered by musical restrictions. Guilty pleasure has become the defining ethos during each writing process. This remix was really quite an interesting project for us since we’re currently on tour with our band St. Lucia. The whole remix was done on the road which is an interesting change from our Brooklyn studio. The imagery, nostalgia and cherubic nature of the original version was so pronounced that it was clear to us that we needed to move in the opposite direction compositionally. Which is obviously awesome for us.”
Cub Sport just released their Paradise EP on Cosine Records.
