Donald Glover, the “multi-talented” hip-hop artist person Childish Gambino, slash Troy on NBC’s Community, as internet nerds everywhere will tell you, got his start writing for 30 Rock. None of which will come as a surprise when you listen to his absurdist lyrics that read like a cutaway gag on either of those supremely internet-y shows.
Yesterday, he released a new mixtape called Royalty, for which he called in a favor from his old boss, one of the most talented spitters in the game, Tina Fey. We’ve seen Fey do more than her share of funky rapping white lady jokes over the years, but is this the time when she finally lets loose and shows us what her real flow is like? You’ll have to listen to find out, although here’s a small taste of her verse, which should probably give you a hint of how she rolls:
“This is the part where most people would say something crazy and drop the n-word after it. Not gonna do that. I don’t feel comfortable. I’m out.”
Considering it’s hard to tell anymore, in the age of Kreayshawn, whether or not most of these rappers are kidding these days, who can even tell if this is the real thing or not?
