Literally every movie about the future that tries to shorthand their way into some world-building with a splash of future music gets it all wrong. Consider that laughable industrial dub step scene from Elysium for the most recent example. (Side note: why are sketchy drug dudes always chilling out in the shady strobe light alleyways?) What music is actually is going to sound like in the future when we’re all living on rafts and hunting for fish-rats with a bow and arrow is Gold Panda: polyglot global, repetitively hypnotic, and evocative enough to conjure thoughts of a better world somewhere out there. We’re really going to need that last part.
The latest video from the UK producer, (who we interviewed this summer), is “Community” from his recent Half Of Where You Live. He’ll be at Webster Hall on October 11.
