This Is One of the Most Offensive TV News Blunders You’ll See In a While

Getting people to tune into the news can be hard, even when you’ve got a hot lead, like FOX 29 Philly’s Joyce Evans, which is why she resorted to the same gimmick that so many media types before her have done this past year: linking it to Breaking Bad. Never mind that there’s only a tenuous connection here, people being shot, but if it bleeds it leads, as the old canard goes. And if it’s dumb, we won, which is a somewhat lesser known saying but it also rhymes and is therefore true.

Evans made the unfortunate mistake of selling her on air piece with the tweet with the following:

Thought “Breaking Bad” was hot last Sunday? @FOX29philly See who’s breakin’ bad in SW Philly leavin’ 6 people SHOT – Tonite at Ten!

I’m not sure what’s the worst part of that, the “breakin'”, the “leavin'”, the  “Tonite”, or the whole entire thing, and by whole entire thing I mean TV news in general. It’s like tweeting a story on mental illness like: “Thought that cryin’ broad on Homeland was batshit? See how the mentally ill in SW Philly are SUBHUMAN – Tonight at Ten!”

Evans seems to be taking the whole thing in stride. As of this posting, she was still trying to explain how we didn’t get her point:

Good point. Here’s another one:
