A rave at an empty mall feels like a teenage dream. Somewhere in Manhattan’s Chinatown last Saturday, S!CK and Weird Magic put on a party that lasted until dawn at the 88 Palace dim sum restaurant on the mall’s second floor. Upstairs from the closed up shops, a fog blanketed the rows of round tables pushed to the side to make room for the club kids dancing. Amidst the white tablecloths, glitzy chandeliers, and red embroidery, the party featured a light show and a line-up of techno ragers that included The Hacker, Untold, Helix, and Volvox, and lasted until the early hours of the morning. When the bustle of hungry families came in to to eat pork buns and shrimp dumplings, it was like nothing ever happened, like some kind of dream. Photographer Marcel Pawlas was there to capture the transient crowd.
