Quick question: Which HBO show do you think would make the most natural tie-in for an Obama fundraiser? The Newsroom, with its liberal politics and incessant moralizing? Veep, with its cynical portrayal of Washington from a somewhat leftist POV? Good guesses, but no! Instead, the cast members of The Wire, HBO’s classic crime epic, will be making an appearance at Martha’s Vineyard to support the president’s re-election campaign. (Though the notice doesn’t specify which actors will be there.) President Obama himself isn’t scheduled to attend, but given the record that it’s one of his favorite television shows, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a complete cast entertain in the name of victory. It would be too much to hope that they’d all be in character, but I guess the sight of Omar Little brandishing a shotgun would be too deep for the $500-a-plate crowd. Because the idea of Mitt Romney as president? Shiiiiiiit!
