One big subplot of the government shutdown today has come in the form of WWII vets, who “stormed” a memorial in Washington D.C.

Predictably, this has become a rallying cry amongst bullshit artists and prevaricators who care more about bellicose symbolism than actually helping people.

Those are just three illustrative examples among thousands from some of the worst excuses for human beings you can imagine. Except for me, perhaps, because I personally hope that all of those people so virulently opposed to the idea of better access to healthcare for all Americans, and each of their family members, even the innocent children, all die slowly of an otherwise treatable disease because they couldn’t get the proper treatment that they need.
But it’s not all doom and gloom around here. There’s a silver lining to the veterans story!
Republicans say the GOP-controlled House intends to pass legislation to reopen portions of the government, including national parks and processing of claims at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
So, to sum things up: tens of millions of citizens go a lifetime without access to affordable healthcare and it’s no big deal. A few old war veterans go a couple hours without being able to bask in the glory of their warmongering exploits at monuments to bloodshed and its a cause worth championing. USA! USA! USA!
