Hollywood Holt has a flare for the unexpected. Before we can ask the Chicago-based rapper our first question, he yells, “Streets!” for no apparent reason. It won’t be the first time. After gaining recognition for his gangster take on moped culture, he has spent the last few years doing what he does best: taking people by surprise with a bottomless supply of energy.
What is the oldest possession that you’re carrying?
My gold rings, my four finger Hollywood Holt rings. I have had these shits for like 8 years. Straight gold, yo! Love gold!
What is your most important piece of equipment?
My laptop. I need that.
Describe the last sunrise you saw.
It was actually in Paris last week. I was out there for Kanye’s fashion show and we got super dumb stupid drunk and were partying, and I looked outside and was like oh, snap! Sunrise, what up? Streets!
What is the first piece of visual art that pops into your head?
Who was your hero at age 5?
Damn. My hero at age five was Spud Webb because he won the dunk contest, and I was mad short, and I was like I can do that. Streets!
What were your obsessions at 17? And what are your obsessions now?
Oh snap, breakdancing, and I still breakdance to this day. I’d say my obsession right now is breakdancing. I breakdance every day, that’s crazy.
