Contrary to what the, let’s say, more septic-dwelling corners of the internet suspected when it was announced the reboot of Ghostbusters would be cast with — gasp! — women, the first trailer for the film looks like the ladies somehow managed to not screw it up with their lady parts.
The clip finds Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones facing a new challenge from the paranormal facing New York City, and features plenty of fan service to keep devotees of the old films happy: Slimer, ectoplasm, hijinks, and that famous theme song.
It’s not quite a sequel, however, as Yahoo News notes:
Despite the fact that the trailer acknowledges this story comes 30 years after the last time ghosts invaded Gotham, this edition takes place in an entirely separate universe. That means original cast members who are returning in bit parts, like Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts, are all playing new roles.
