STOP THE PRESSES: ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Reunion Definitely Happening, Says James Van Der Beek

I DON’T WANNA WAIT… for the season premiere of Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23, which will apparently feature a mini Dawson’s Creek reunion between James Van Der Beek and Busy Phillips, playing themselves. If you’re not up on your ABC primetime programming, Van Der Beek plays an exaggerated version of himself on the show—chalk it up to modern culture’s incessant re-meme-ing—which sets the stage for a reunion us ’90s babies have only dreamed of. In an interview with Vulture, Van Der Beek confirmed Phillips’s involvement. “The first thing I did was call Busy myself, because we’re friends, and said, ‘Listen, you’re going to get this offer, but I just wanted to let you know — if you don’t want to do it, I totally get it. But we’d love to have you,'” he said. “And she did it. And she came on and was hilarious.” He also expanded a little bit on how it felt to be a member of the Creek:

“It’s one of those experiences that it’s just — being on something like Dawson’s Creek is something that maybe five or six people in the world understand. And it’s not that it was hard; I mean, coal mining is hard. Being a soldier is hard. But being on something that has the impact that that did, it’s just — I don’t know. There’s almost kind of no place to put it in the realm of normal, sensible life experience. It’s just one of those things that just does not compute in a lot of ways.”

Heavy, no? He says it paled in comparison to being a soldier, but there wasn’t anything about the Pacey-Dawson-Joey love triangle that didn’t resemble trench warfare. The season premiere is on October 23, and we’ll all be better for having watched it.
